The following directory contains a range of expressions and other terms featured on our site. Bass - Referring to tones that are at the lowest part of the musical range. Such sounds are generally between 20 and 200 Hz. Bass tones are also described as "deep" or "booming" and are emphasized for effect, particularly for sounds like rumbles, explosions or bangs.

Ergonomic - Ergonomic furniture is designed with the contours of the human body in mind. While everyone’s body is different, ergonomic furniture is structured in order to promote the user’s safety, comfort and health. In turn, this maximizes productivity, particularly in the workplace.

Gaming Mats - Like yoga or exercise mats, gaming mats are foam-filled mats that are great for playing video games or watching TV. Gaming mats can also be rolled up for easy storage and are usually machine-washable.

Hydraulic Base - A type of base that uses liquid to perform the mechanical task of adjusting.

Illuminating Speakers - Speakers that light up in order to enhance the game-playing experience. Such speakers come in a variety of colors with a range of lighting patterns and displays that work synonymously with the video games.

iPod Game Chairs - Game Chairs that are designed for iPod users, with audio inputs and docking stations in which the user can charge his or her iPod. These chairs often have several reclining positions in order to provide an comfortable listening experience.

Leatherette - A synthetic material that resembles leather. Leatherette is often used for seat covers in cars or notebook and book covers.

Rumble Motors - Motors contained within a chair that rumble in conjunction with the game. Rumble motors behave in a similar way to a "rumble pack" which is usually placed inside game controllers. (See also "Vibrating Motors")

Steering Wheel/Gas Pedal Game Chairs- These chairs are compatible with most gaming and computer platforms, and provide steering wheel and gas pedal mounting options.

Subwoofer - A speaker designed to replicate very low bass frequencies, usually approximately 80 Hz and below.

Surround Sound - An arrangement where speakers are placed in front of and behind the listener. This creates the sensation that the sound is organically part of the environment. Many home theater systems include several speakers for this purpose and the result allows the listener to feel as if he or she is totally immersed in sound.

Treble- A term referring to tones of high frequency. Treble denotes a high pitched or acute sound, on the opposite end of the spectrum from bass. Normally, treble sounds are considered to be those above 5Hz.

Vibrating Motors- Motors inside the chair that causes the seat to vibrate in sync with the action in the user’s current game. (see also "Rumble Motors")

Video Rocker- An ergonomically designed chair, for watching TV, reading, or playing video games. Video rockers are often made of vinyl or easily-cleaned fabrics, and do not connect to power sources.
